Getting Back Together

So I have an online friend (yes, I know it sound weird) I haven't talked to since we started college. Anyways, we were great friends, could talk to each other about anything on our minds but it seems like we never had any time to communicate and we completely stopped once we started school. But I still have her e-mail and I would like to just e-mail her to see how she's doing. But I'm afraid I'll seem to "perverted" or needy in some sorts. Any suggestions on how I can go about this without these kinds of awkward toughs occurring or on just going about the whole thing to being with?
