What would you choose - love or a good career??

I live in Ireland and have been with my boyfriend for a year and a half, I love him to pieces and he treats me so well. He is in the RAF and is being posted to England for a few years. He has asked if I want to go with him. I applied to get in the police and have been going to tests and interviews for the last year. I am now at the end and am nearly in (although they could still turn me down) If I go to England I would stay in an admin job and not get paid half as much as if I got in the police. I am going to leave the police career to move to England with him, I believe I am making the right decision as I can see us having a future. Do you think I am making the right decision choosing love over a well paid career? What would you do?

Why don't you go with him and apply for the Police Force in England? You sound like it's a good relationship I wouldn't throw it away but I'd certainly make some inquiries for you own career! : ) Good Luck

Mccfluff and 4getmenot: It takes over a year to do the whole process and I may not get this far again. Also he will have to be posted to a different camp every 5 years or so and I'm not sure if you can keep transferring.

No unfortunatley you have to re-apply and do it all again! Its because I applied to join the PSNI force. Its hard waiting to hear for a whole year and going backwards and forwards. I think only 1 in 10 people get in the first time they apply.

I know I'm doing the right thing going with him. I just wanted to check I wasn't being blinded by love and other people thought it was stupid idea to go! x

could you not serve a short time with the Police where you are now and then ask for a transfer?

I;d definately go if it were me and I knew I had a good chance to stay in the same career

You have to do 6 months training and then stay in the same station for 2 years doing exams before you can apply for a transfer. I'm sure I could apply in England again and see what happens. Life and being happy means the most to me!

Have you spoken to the police in England about this?

No, I think I would need to wait and see where my boyfriend gets posted and then speak to the police force in that area. The problem is the police don't actually do the recruitment process, Cosensia do and I asked them and they said I couldn't transfer

It all sounds ridiculous to me. As you said wait to see where he goes and then see what you can do. xx

I think it is stupid too. The recruitment process takes too long and no one can tell me anything! I'll wait and see how it pans out and re-apply if need be. Thanks for your help x

not sure how it works but could you not try the military police?

if you are sure about your relationship then go with him and apply for whatever you want once there!
