Its me, not him..... !
12 Answers
I met a wonderful man and we have recently moved in together. Everything has been great and I have never felt so happy. But then the evenings started getting darker and I noticed that I have become irritable, tired and all the things that go along with SAD.
I didn't like the person I became the last couple of days, emotional and clingy. I fear pushing him away with my irrational behaviour. I did take a pregnancy test, just to rule it out and now have started taking St Johns Wort, but where as normally they kick in quite quickly, they haven't this time.
What can I do so that I don't push him away?

Explain the condition to him, and how it affects you, and how long it lasts, and ask for his patience and understanding.
As a man with a wife and three daughters, I used to remind them occasionally to tell me when they have their 'time of the month', and I would make allowances for ratty and irrational behaviour, and roll with it.
But - as a man and not a mind reader, you need to tell me, so I know.
The same applies - it affects you, and by default him, so bring him on board, and enlist his understanding. You'll both be glad you did.

St Johns Wort doesn't normally kick in properly for aboout a month or so as far as I'm aware so maybe previously you experienced a placebo effect? Why don't you try getting one of those lights that helps to combat SAD, people have really been recommending them.
Also, just tell your fella you're feeling like a moody bint at the moment and you think it might be the weather and a bit of SAD so please to bear with you. He'll probably find it quite funny really. My ex used to laugh at me for the same reason, as soon as it turns cold and dark I(apparently) get a bit of a cob on and continue with said cob until someone points it out and then I'm usually mortified that it's been noticed as I think I'm hiding my grumpines vvery well. In fact I'm more of a brat than I usually am and that really is saying something.
Don't be too hard on yourself and just tell him and be aware of your triggers, you'll be fine.
