Does this only really still happen within the Pakistani and Bangladeshi community?
I have Sikh and Hindu friends, who have introductions through family, but it's never a forced marriage. The couple introduced do not have to take things further if they don't gel.
I think it can work if it's not a forced marriage. Afterall many of us meet our partner's through introduction by friends etc and these days, it is difficult to meet people who have the same agendas.

I think the idea of an arranged marriage is that the parents know their child so well they are the best person to find a suitale partner.
I have a few friends who had arranged marriages and whose children have also had arranged marriages - not forced though which are entirely different. In an arranged marriages both parties should willingly agree to the marriages.
Sadly today there are still many forced marriages and not just within the Pakistani and Bangladeshi community. It is quite rife in parts of Turkey especially amongst the kurdish community.
I think provided one of the couple is not in love with someone else then there is good chance of the marriage being happy.
