How do you turn your husband's ex wife down?

For some bizarre reason my husband's ex wife has invited us to her birthday barbecue. From going from being the scum of the earth I have been elevated to getting invites (she tried to invite me to her Ann Summers party - I couldn't imagine anything worse than discussing the same guy's fetishes LOL). I have no real issue as what is done is done but my husband is horrified. He is very cynical about it all (he still pays for loads of stuff and thinks now that he is making a few noises about her sorting out her finances she is just trying to smooze up to him to delay the inevitable).

I don't want to appear rude but he just can't stand her at all (or the former outlaws)! Anyone else had anything like this?

Yes and the answer is ' thanks so much
,but we have a prior commitment. ' Why on earth would you accept an invitation to an event you would rather pierce your eyeballs out with molten sticks not to attend? could the reason be you guys are being softened up? Take on board she is 'the ex' not you and her previous involvement with your husband is of no consequence to accepting invitations.

I agree with carmalee, 'thanks, but....' don't go into too much detail, be polite, but be firm. She'll hopefully get the hint and stop inviting you to things.

Oh dear! I know we all have to do our best to be adults when it comes to these situations but some people push a little bit too far!
Just send a polite, thanks but we have other plans.
Don't try to justify your 'plans' it's nothing to do with her.

My hubby has come home with the date and we are away for the weekend (plus they have had another bust up about money so I think it will get revoked!!!) LOL A stay of execution ...

The invite came via his kids so it sort of makes it worse if you try and wriggle out of it but this isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened ...
