I think the thing about body mods is that some people seem to get addicted to it. I have seen some people with bits of metal hanging off every available bit of skin, and I must say I do think that such people may be suffering from a self-image problem. In general though, I either like it or dislike it according to the individual case.
I don't really think that there's a problem with what consenting, sober adults choose to do to their bodies. If I or anyone else happens to disagree, that's their problem.
Just to say, Kookiandmojo, that I have said I would never have any piercings, but I have never criticised anybody who has them. Some are quite attractive. The only thing I do disagree with completely and with no apologies is piercings on babies and young children.
As I have said before, I makes me feel physically sick to think of holes being punched into me.
I don't think theres anything wrong with piercings and tattoos if thats what you want, I would never critisise anyone and im not against it as its a personal choice each to their own I say.
personally I wouldnt have them all over as I am a wimp and couldn't bare the pain, I have my ears done and thats about it.
I have a friend who has several piercings some that you can see and some you can't !! her back is covered in a celtic tatoo which she designed herslf and I admire her for having the guts to go through all the pain to which she said she didn't feel ?!
I've never had/wanted a piercing though I do have tattoos.
It was considered de rigeur when I was in the Army to have one and I'd always fancied one anyway. I've now got three, an oriental dragon on my upper arm, a Tasmanian Devil with my son's name and D.O.B on one shoulder blade and a butterfly with my daughter's name and D.O.B. on the other.
I'd like one more on the other arm to balance things up, then I'll stop there.
i had my ears pierced wen i was 6 weeks old, then second holes when i was 12. when i was 15 i got my navel pierced and at 18 i got a tattoo on my lower back, its quite big actually. i do have a love hate relation ship with the tattoo but only because it was initally done wrong and nobody could tell what it was. now its much better as i had it 'fixed.' i will have another, but small and discreet. |
Hi kookiandmojo, yes i am also guilty of saying things against piercings. But in the sense that i don't like to see children with them. Some of you here say you had piercings at 6 weeks old and i'm really sorry but i just don't agree with that. You should really be over 16 at least to make a sensible decision as they are permanent scars on the body, having them at that age means you had no say in the matter (obviously!).
Some piercings do look nice and suit people, it is only the age thing that i have a problem with.
