It sounds fine - but like most things in real life, it's tricky.
Assuming that you can both avoid any emotional ties what so ever, that your partner(s) never ever found out, that you could find the time and the energy, that you found someone sexually compatable, and that you can live with your concience, then it all sounds fine.
But in the real world, it's a bomb waiting to go off.

I think its pathetic, if you wanna f*ck aroung just be single...
If your in a relationship then respect the person that you are weird... Its a bit scary to think that most men would be happy with that and women too...
Call me traditional if you want but if you love your partner you wouldnt do it.... SIMPLE...

Jayne, I did realise that the bonking buddy didn't have to be single,. I just thought it was worth mentioning that side of things in case nobody had considered it.
I was also avoiding the other bit, which for me, is that there would have to be more to it than a simple bonking thing. But then I'm old enough to know the difference casual and properly satisfying play, and I know which I prefer.

Thats my point PeeBee1, how many women ( and of course ) men out there, truly believe their partner is faithful when actually he/she has had a bonking partner for years...................................
I am single, i have a very happy full life - i have no complaints about it whatsoever, and after a bad relationship dont really want to go into another one yet........so when it suits us i see my BB - sometimes weekly, sometimes we might go a couple of months - but when we do it is lovely and i enjoy it for what it is - nothing less and nothing more.
but as a single person, i notice that, yes, i do get asked out, and often it seems to be by men who really shouldnt be asking !! now, im single, i dont think im doing anything wrong, but arent they for asking in the first place ??
i dont think that if i went out with them, it would be me breaking up their marriage etc, it would be them for having stepped over the line........................ this is an observation, rather than something i activley do you understand, ive just noticed it happens to me and my single girlfirends a lot !!

I doubt whether there are any reliable statistics to answer your question, but try these figures as a "guestimate" based on the University of Life.
% of either partner that thinks both partners are faithful...60%
% of partnerships (marriage) where one or both partners are faithful ..............15%
