Good books about Dogs (Story)

I have read The Narrow Dog to Carcassone and I enjoyed this very much, I am looking for other books of a similar nature. Please can anyone suggest a good book that has a good story and includes dogs? Maybe a beach/seaside story or just a story about the Dog-Human relationship rather than just the traditional stories of Dogs (Marley & Me etc) Thanks

Also, a lot of Dean Koontz's book feature dogs ...

... which turn out to be angels in disguise.

If you can still get a hold of it I'd thoroughly recommend Moobli by Mike Tomkies. He used to be a Hollywood biographer and he gave it all up to live in a cottage in the Scottish Highlands with no running water or electricity and study the local wildlife. He wrote a few books on wildcats, eagles and other wild animals he was able to study at close range. Throughout all of them he was accompanied by Moobli, his faithful GSD and he wrote this book about their lives together. It is interesting, funny and heartbreakingly poignant as he tells of the life he shared with his only companion out in the wilderness.

Try Mark Wallington's Boogie up the river or 50 mile walkies

my suggestion of '50 mile walkies' by Mark Wallington was a mistake-it should have been '500' mile walkies. Both books are similar to 'Narrow dog 'in that they are comical and easily readable. I thoroughly enjoyed them both.

Timbuktoo, by Paul Auster. Quite sad towards the end though. It's told from the dogs perspective (anthropomorphic I know, but I like how he does it).
