Well cannot believe it - when I get this oul vertigo I suffer so much with nauseous and vomiting I know I am bound to lose weight. HOWEVER when I get better I eat and eat and eat like there's no tomorrow. Deffo felt that I had gained at least 1 stone - ohh la I am 9 lbs down.

My philosophy is - just eat when you are hungry and do without the rest of the day - hope this keeps up - love it when trousers fit nicely and no unsightly bulges but for that another 8-9 lbs to go. But will weigh in another few months again. bye folks

That's my philosophy. Eat when hungry, stop when full.

I can't over eat. As soon as I'm full I can't eat another morsel and want all plates cleared away.

My family are pigs.

One time my cousin was here for dinner. He was in the kitchen with me so I served his up first. By the time I'd plated the other meals and took them through...he'd finished.
My problem is I am always hungry, and when I eat I really know how to put it away. I seem to lack that "turn off when full" switch, I will eat until I burst! I am fortunate in as much as I don't put weight on easily, Ok. I am a couple stone overweight and I am very aware that my metabolism will be slowing down now at 58 so I need to start being a little more careful, especially with all the heart disease in my family. I have also cut my portion size in half since being with Carakeel, or should I say.... she has cut my portion size in half!!

i have relatives like that too. must say however I am a very fast eater too. am trying to slow down. can't really believe my loss.

friends are saying certain coats are too big on me - so I say "the lady got small" LOL

no matter how much you lose Carakeel - ever bit lost is better than a bit going on - so well done.

I need to step it up a little bit with some water works but I so loathe cauld water particuarly on my back. maytry in another cuppla months.

I think you mis=read my post, my partner is Carakeel not me, and I havent lost an ounce lol.
I eat very very slowly and so does the OH. It's not a choice, that's just how I eat naturally, but apparently you'll feel full quicker if you eat slowly.

My sister was really brave recently and put her weight on facebook in the hope it would encourage her to lose some.

If I ate strictly when I was hungry I'd graze all day and put on loads of weight.

I think different strategies suit different people. I am trying (and failing) to avoid snacking. Meals take a while anyway so it's not unusual, like last night, that I put something on to cook then find I succumb to a biscuit to keep me going; because I started cooking when I felt I needed something.
I'd suspect that rather than feeling full quicker if you eat slowly, it may be a case of having giving your body time to react and feel sufficiently full before you have finished all the food on your plate.

(Of course you can't waste all that food you cooked so that has to be eaten too anyway, and there is also that plum pud steaming on the stove that you'll now have to eat rather than waste.)
Ermmm... Maybe the best strategy is to NOT have that "plum pudding steaming on the stove".
Then there would be no reason to *have* to have it....
O_G...don't buy it. I never buy snacks with my weekly shop. If there was no biscuits in the house you couldn't snack on them.
I agree...I never have rubbish at home. Now,if only I could get rid of the nasties at work...where it's too easy to grab a biscuit when I'm stressed.
I agree with pastafreak and ummmm. I think some people have a kind of ‘love affair’ with food, relishing what they regard as 'delicious'. I’m not fussed about food and I never buy ‘low fat’ anything - but then I only eat because I’d die if I didn’t.
You don't buy it and you then go around in a miserable mood waiting for the meal, wondering why you are bothering to try to lose weight in the first place if it is that bad. You may even be tempted to go out and buy it at the time. Self denial/torment is not the way to succeed at weight loss IMO.
There you are ummmm; Pasta says no plum pudding for you ;-)
Naomi...I'm the same.

If I lived alone I'd survive on seafood and salad with a few spuds thrown in.

That’s exactly it. Self-denial. If people didn’t cling to their love of food, there would be no denial. They would eat only because they’re hungry. Overweight people love food - and they're always the people who know everything there is to know about diets.
O_G, I'm never in a miserable mood through lack of food. Change your habits and you'll lose the weight. It won't take long.
Ummmm, me too - and maybe some pasta.
I'm in the "love food...live to eat " category. Left to my own devices,I could eat way too much of certain foods. But I discovered that cutting out all the nasty processed carbs that I was addicted to,worked. So I still eat lovely food...even butter and cream...but I keep the weight off. I suppose that what you learn to live without depends on how much you want to be slim and/or healthy. It's no good complaining that you can't lose weight if you still eat those foods that cause you discomfort.
