Complex carbohydrates

As a type 2 diabetic, I was told to eat complex carbohydrates. What are they?

Wow... I wonder just what sort of reply Lyn has already received.....

Lyn - I have no idea what complex (or simple) carbs are... but I suspect you need to increase the amount of *slow acting* carbs in your diet - replace foods like white bread, polished (white) rice, plain pasta with foodstuffs like wholemeal or wholegrain bread, brown or wild rice, wholewheat pasta etc (because they take longer to digest)...and make sure you eat lots of vegetables and fruit. Discard the processed foodstuffs and try to eat real food as much as possible if you can. Pulses (beans and lentils etc) are a good substitute for fatty meats now and again and the grains are good cos they take longer to digest. I also like bananas cos they take ages for my body to digest, so I get a carb intake on a very gradual scale.. What you are trying to avoid here are sudden rushes or peaks in carbohydrates or sugars, which your body cannot cope with.
