In these times of high unemployment is there any need to do this.
http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2013/09/14/more-than-98000-west-midlands-jobs-advertised-to-european-workers/

And this is just the West Mids, wonder how many other area's are doing the same thing.

I suppose if it works the other way round and Polish etc vacancies are advertised here then the effect is neutral.
I don't think that there is a suggestion that Uk workers won't have access to these vacancies.
But it does seem odd that some companies seem to take on so many workers from these countries. I stayed at Travelodge recently and all the staff seemed to be Eastern European
i have to say, there are probably a few jobs around here that maybe east europeans are willing to take, like working in a hotel for a 10 hour shift with no break, no training, no health and safety induction, no fire training, some east europeans wouldn't even ask about such things and be glad they were in work all be it at NMW when working til 3 or 4 in the morning, some employers may even try getting away with paying them less, the employment agencies let the big hotel chains get away with it too.

I suppose that's one way of keeping wages low, dot.

It comes seven months after Black Country Labour MP Ian Austin raised the matter with the government. But today he said he had received no reply.

I wonder why no reply yet ?.
Nothing surprises me these days.
Question Author
aog, if I hadn't read this for my self I'd think it was a wind up !.
If the natives can't be arsed....
Question Author
How do you know they can't be @rsed then, Zac ?.
I assume Ian Austin won't get anywhere with this because there is probably an agreement across the EU for all countries to advertise vacancies across the EU
Question Author
ff, Ian Austin say's he's had no reply, if it was the case of some EU agreement then I think he would know about that, however the government haven't given him a reply full stop !.
What's the problem?
We have no choice, as members of the EU we HAVE BY LAW to make certain that jobs here are advertised throughout the entire EU.
In any case 99% of these jobs are minimum wage and very few UK nationals will give up their benefits to do them.
The new immigrants will do them as the minimum wage here is 3 to 5 times what they would earn at home and they CAN claim benefits once they have paid full NI for 2 years.
What a wonderfull world is the EU for someone from Eastern Europe!!!
Just wait until Turkey joins the E, only a matter of time. Turkey has a larger population than any current or proposed EU member!!! They are now talking about Syria joining the EU once the present problems are over!
Question Author
Syria joining the EU once the present problems are over!

Is that right EDDIE,I haven't seen or heard anything about that, however I always thought that Syria is in the middle east and certainly not in Europe.
Not really sure I see what the issue is here, either. These jobs are also being advertised via the usual channels in the UK, correct? If they were not, it might be a different story.
Question Author
No issue at all then, LG !.
Because otherwise the immigrants wouldn't have so many of our jobs.
Here you go Syria has had official discussions about EU membership but they have been suspended while the present unrest continues , a big 'carrot' for getting a stable government in Syria is resumption of EU membership talks!
http://eeas.europa.eu/syria/
Who next Israel and Egypt ? why not the whole of Africa ? North African states are already asking about membership.
It is certainly the case that minimum wage jobs involving long hours are often more attractive to workers from Eastern Europe than those currently receiving benefits in the UK. If the benefits system was less generous things might change but that won't happen.

Question Author
Thanks EDDIE, I think they'll soon have to change the name, As EU will be meaningless if they let Syria and North African states join.
why don't they all just join one thing and call it , oh i don't know, maybe 'the world', except the USA, they already are the world apparently
