Why Can't Businesses Get Anything Right These Days ?

It seems impossible for Joe Public to do business with Companies these days without running into difficulties with "Customer Services".

Having cancelled an order over a week ago with an online company (because a 7-day delivery promise was unfulfilled three weeks later), I arrived home yesterday to find a Courier had attempted to deliver the same, and taken it back to the depot as nobody was in, with a request from the Courier to contact them to re-arrange. I contacted the Courier and said there was no point retrying delivery as I would not accept it, and also e-mailed the supplier expressing my dissatisfaction in the strongest possible terms. I'm not holding my breath though.

I think a law should be introduced obliging Companies to pay nominal administration fees to Customers who have to sort out their (the Company's) shortcomings - say £30 per communication (about the going rate used by banks etc.)

Logistics is a fairly normal stumbling block isn't it?

Was it a real courier company, or a Hermes/Yodel type thing?

You could send them an invoice - they probably won't get it though!
I don't think you can do any more than you have. As long as they don't charge you for the cancelled order it's their problem isn't it?
A promise does not constitute a contractual obligation unless specifically agreed.
You were probably within your rights to cancel but that's the extent of your redress.
Perhaps email Corbyn with your suggestion. He's apparently looking for wacky ideas that damage businesses.
