Bank Holidays And Holiday Entitlement.
4 Answers
I’m struggling to get my head round this so input would be appreciated . I’ve just changed jobs so my working hours are changing but holiday entitlement is the same (minimum entitlement unfortunately ) so I have six weeks including bank holidays .
I’m used to working a long day on a Monday but I think I maybe doing half days with new people - 8.30am til 1 . Old employers used to state holidays as days but new people state hours which is better.
So on the 5 bank holiday Mondays I will be off but I will be using less holiday hrs as it will just be 5 x 4 hrs used which will leave me more hours to use elsewhere . I’m I working this out right ? ...

In practice, we used to add up how many hours someone actually worked in a week containing a BH and then deduct the balance from their holiday allowance - that gave everyone a bit more flexibility.

It is dependant on how many hours you are contracted to work.
I work 21 hours over four days and was due 1/5 of my entitlement back as a BH uplift. Which is 4.2 hrs so rather annoyingly I was given the BH off and the 4.2 hours were annoyingly split with one hour less to work for three shifts.
If in doubt ask your line manager to explain it for you.

Here's the example we were sent:
An employee who works
7 hours per day (full) on a Monday
5 hours on Tuesday
zero hours on Wednesday
5 hours on Thursday
4 hours on Friday
Total 21 (working week is 35 hours)
would be entitled to the following annual leave allowance:
21 hours / 35 hours x 30 days x 7 hours = 126 hours per annum.
They will also be on leave on closure days and bank holidays which occur on their working days.
