I fear a civil war is festering.

It's a shame. I've been to lots of meetings at the Cresta Court in Altrincham. A nice hotel, soon to be taken over. I know it's going to accomodate assylum seekers, but have they applied through the proper channels or just sneaked in on boats?

I've said it before on here; the UK does not have a strong enough deterrent to prevent people from trying to enter this country illegally, and so they keep coming. The latest attempt by the govt is a good example of a weak measure. It won't work.

We have been told time and time again why we have the problem by the French.

Stop giving them benefits and letting them stay.  Stopping the benefits and hotel accomodation should be the start, build some temparary accomodation on old military sites and make then stay on site until the application is processed. And then on failure of application deport.  If they have destryed all their papers and refuse to say where they are from then send the to a Rhwanda style place.

It would slow to a trickle overnight.

I've said it before, all, or maybe if you can find an exception or two, most, are not asylum seekers. They are illegal economic (or worse) immigrants pretending to be asylum seekers. Most should be packed off to where they came from, not put into hotels, especially at public expense.

Alleged traumatic journey of their own choosing.

Exactly OG, and the worse thing is the true asylum seekers are lost in the mass of illegal economic migrants.

Simple question these illegal migrants have traveled many hundred of miles to get to the UK paid many people smugglers arrive on these shores well dressed and fed.

I would have thought it highly unlikely a genuine Asylum seeker would have travelled through safe countries like France and not claimed asylum there.

Once their number reaches critical mass & they get organised!

A dear friend, a very good woman  - dedicated to helping others - asked me how we would manage without the Winter Fuel Allowance.   She had been shocked. She has been more shocked since then ( automatically voted Labour).

"I fear a civil war is festering" (TTT) Yes, it has smouldered for many years and the embers are glowing.

Why does no-one look at what is happening in Germany and France?  It is the usual story.  Nohing will be done to nip it in the bud.   Eventually it will boil over and be very, very nasty.

Youngmafgog you talk of using ex military sites building temporary accommodation..

not many miles from my home town 850 illegal imigrants are housed on an ex military base. Local people have good reason to fear some of them for various happenings. They can get a free mini bus into local towns wondering around in groups..a family member was accosted by one in a suppermarket!!.

There is talk of more arriving as accommodation was set to house more than at present.  I understand the police are often called to settle 'disputes'.  Local people homeless..makes the blood boil.
