What is the point of having a telephone call system whereby the caller press 1 for etc and go through the system that asks a spacific question press1 and when they answer the phone they say "How can I help you"?????

I'v just been through 30 options that eventualy asked the spacific question I wanted answering for god's sake... you should bl@@dy well know.

LOL, I hadn't thought about that.

Unless I'm phoning to check my bank balance (where I know to press 5 anyway), I tend to keep pressing 0 over and over, it annoys the automated system and you get put through to someone very quickly.

But what's the point if they answer you with "How can I help you". They might just as well not have the automated system and save �1k

Saves staff wages - but also the numbers are often premium rate and by the time your call is answered by a human you have contributed to the directors bonus schemes.

Some one still answers the phone with how can I help you and no idea of what you want!

If they are going to have such a system surely it should flag up the question to the operator?

it's like when it says, "key in your account number to help us deal with your call", then "key in your date of birth" etc.. and they still don't know who you are when someone eventually speaks!

sandmaster has a fair point. When you dial 084 or 087 numbers, the company you are calling receives a share of the call revenue, whch you pay. The longer they can keep you on the line, the higher their share.

I work for a telecoms company, and the point in having these steve are to make sure that you call is directed towards the right department, It sounds like the ones you are calling arnt set up correctly. Also teachers etc use them to record absent pupil messages to save time for the headteacher and make sure she can be gettingn on with more imnprtant issues, also alot of people press the wrong option or keep pressing the same option and end up going through to the wrong department. Hope this helps.
