Employed and Self Employed
Hi All
Is it possible to be employed and self employed but working for the same company? and if so, are there any tax implications.....ie if someone is working in a care home as a care assistant and then also working for the same care home but as a massage therapist?
Any advice?

Yes, I am employed part time by this company but am also trying to be self employed as a massage therapist and still work for the same company.
ummmmmmm
I am not working anywhere else as a therapist at the moment as I have just qualified, although I do intend to advertise and work from home/or as a mobile therapist at times.
I realise that I have to pay my own taxes and nat ins etc...as a sole trader, but I am also employed by this company on a part time basis!

Your employer has you on PAYE and pays you separately for other hours you work for them ? If I have it right, your employer could be at fault for reimbursing you this way unless you bill your employer for the extra income ?
When you are solely Self Employed you should inform IR for your tax code. SE file accounts after their 1st years work. Make sure you keep wage slips, billing & expense receipts to prepare your accounts.

Coco...it's fine. You'll need to register with HMRC as self employed and you will be sent a self assessment tax return.
On this form there will be a section on other employment where you will fill in using your pay slip/p60. Then you fill in your self employment earnings. You have to remember, depending on how much you earn as 'employed' that you probably won't have any tax free amount so make sure when you invoice clients that you put aside any tax due ready for when you receive your bill.
If you can give your local tax office a call. You can arrange to go in and they will talk you through it. They are really really helpful.

It's pretty much been covered already, but yes, in theory, you can be employed and self employed in that manner. As already said though you have to be genuinely available to work for many clients in the self employed part. If you only ever work for the one employer (even if that was a different one to the one who currently employs you) then that's employment too in reality. If you are advertising and attempting to offer a mobile therapy service to others though I can't see a problem. That's fine.
