Telephone cut off for outgoing calls

My elderly mother has been cut off from making outgoing calls because she has not paid the bill ,she says that she has not made a lot of the calls they have charged her for, and until they sort it out she refuses to pay. She is a very obstinate person, and won't let anyone try & sort it. What I am worried about is that they will eventually cut the incoming calls as well....does anyone know if they will do this??? It is very worrying, as I live quite a way away, she has a heart condition which doesn't help matters. I believe she can diall 999 if she has an emergency. At the moment I can phone her to see if she's ok, but as I say, I don't know if they will cut this as well....help!!!!

Why not buy her a pay as you go mobile.

The first step is to stop her phoning out and then they will stop her incoming calls too.

If you are disconnected by BT for non-payment you shouldn't be able to make or receive any calls.

Thanks everybody. The idea of a mobile is good, but unfortunately, she would not be able to cope with one. Her memory & her mind is not what it used to be, and new technology is all a mystery to her!!!! Its as I feared, they will probably cut off her incoming as well. Oh dear.

Is it possible one of the people that comes in to help her has made them?

Or has she answered a call from some dodgy people and got either conned or is hooked up to one of the scams going around?

can you not get her permission to call BT and investigate these bills yourself?

you can actually buy mobiles that are only phones...exactly for the reason you state...they are basically just a handset, really simple an work like a normal house phone, so she should be able to use one

Does she receive paper phone bills still? If so you could look at them and find who the alleged calls have been made to.

id suggest you ring a few of them to see who they are

if you launch an investiagtion and it is found that she did in fact make the calls i suspect there will be a charge for it.

Thanks so much everyone. Will have to try & investigate further...although I've just found out she no longer has the bill for me to look at ...she sent it back to them !!!??
The mobile that is like an ordinary phone sounds good...never heard of that, who does these??
