Does anyone know where to start regarding getting a grant for alterations to our house? I am disabled due to arthritis and need a downstairs toilet. There isn't anywhere to put one inside the house as it is, but we could build onto the side of the house. Would we need planning permission etc. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

you need to ask your local council/social services about a disabled facilities grant. You might find it cheaper to get a stairlift though

Hi bednobs. I filled in a form online through my local council's website and a very nice lady rang me yesterday to take a fwmore details. She has passed my case to an occupational therapist who will come and assess my needs. Thanks again for your answers. x
I agree with Bednobs, we had a stannah stair-lift put in and they come and service it regularly as well.
