Unpaid Wages and DD/Standing Order Charges
It seems my wages haven't gone into my bank account today
But I had 2 standing orders and one DD to be paid today
I'm quite obviously going to get charged for this and although I have looked, I cannot find any information about my employers duty to pay those charges
I feel sick to my stomach over it at the moment and am in a bit of a blind panic as I have other bills to cover that I can't until that money goes in
Does anyone have any information please on where to look
TIA

Explain the situation to your bank, if you have been with them a while they should let you have a temporary overdraft until the wages go in so that you do not get charged. I would go down to the bank in person as soon as they open , lets them see you are acting responsibly and not just hoping they will pay.

I don't know of any legislation which says that the employer is liable to pay bank charges if pay goes in late - I've had it happen as a gesture of goodwill, but I don't think they are obliged to do it.
I get paid on the 24th of the month, and for this reason I have arranged that my DDs/SOs come out from 26th onwards, just in case of delays. Could you do this, so you don't get into this situation again?
Meanwhile - contact your employer straight away and explain the position, find out why the pay was late going in and ask what their policy is on reimbursing employees under those circumstances.

I feel slightly embarrassed now - seems they have gone in in the last 20 minutes. It doesn't appear to have been any attempt to take the DD or SO either, so hopefully they go during banking hours =)
Thanks for all your replies so quickly at this time of the morning. I really, really appreciate that you are here

Rah, oj - I am pleased for you!
This does seem to be an anomaly with banking - we expect the money to be there at 00.01 on the day it's due, but in my experience it seems go in about 2am in my bank!
They also have a sneaky habit of taking OUT payments before they put in any receipts - but as long as you are not overdrawn at the close of business, no charges are incurred at my bank.
All's well then - but I would still suggest that you change your payment due dates so that they come out a couple of days after payday, in future!

I've never had this before but as long as wages are in before the bank attempt tp pay DD and So's I'm ok with knowing this now =)
Have changed all payment dates apart from my water bill which I can't do unless I make a totally new DD - at £27 I can ensure that amount is in there at the end of the month
thanks again for all your help and replies

At my works, accounts payable has been outsourced to India. Several colleagues were made redundant as a result. The crowd in India are useless, couldn't get drunk in a brewery. My expenses were delayed as a result of their pussyfooting, leading to my fuel card direct debit being returned unpaid and my fuel card being put on stop for 10 days. I did not ask my boss that bank charges be paid, I told her that they will be submitted and I expect reimbursement.
While my fuel card was on stop, I may have inadvertantly shopped around for the most expensive diesel seeing as these receipts were going on expenses.

If you have problems with bank charges do not phone them. Go into the bank and make a scene (do not shout just cry) at the teller. This always worked where I used to work. The bank charges are at the discreation of the manager.
Maybe worth arranging an overdraft facility as an extra security. Though be careful as people start delving into this as a matter of course.

thanks for recent replies - as you can see it was all sorted out and no charges incurred
My only issue after was the bank saw the date changes I made as a new payment so all my SO's came out twice! l.o.l
Just as well I had enough in there to cover them plus I was able to get them back form the parties they were paid to =)
