Emergency money

Hi
My son who is in Thailand at the moment had his bank debit card stolen and although he has informed the bank and had it cancelled they say that it will take 10 working days to issue a replacement card.
Meanwhile he cannot access his money so can you advise me as to the cheapest and secure method to send him some cash.

Use either moneygram (post office) or western union money transfer (local newsagents, paypoints) and it'll be there same day. you can send £100-200 for £10 or less.
have you spoken to him yourself though as there's a lot of scams doing the rounds at the moment via e-mail/texts supposedly from friends & family in trouble abroad.

Be very careful, have you actually spoken to your son? If not, then it might well be a scam similar to one that was tried on us recently.

A friend of mine had his e maail hacked while away on hol and we all got mail asking for help...BIG SCAM...be careful do not act on e mail or text you need to speak with your son to authenticate his plight !

As long as he has his passport then Moneygram via the Post Office is a good way. You can check in your local Post Office (or online) where your sons nearest Moneygram office is. It only takes 10 minutes to get there and your son will have cash in his hand. You can also send a question which the person collecting the money will have to answer correctly. You could ask for name of pet or their first primary school or something like that that you know your son will know.

Western Union, but they charge a bit!

Hello, it's a bit late I know, but the fastest secure route that I know of is via Western Union (might be useful in future but I imagine you've sorted this one out by now).
