Ive received an email asking me to update my PayPal account or it will be suspended. How can I tell if this is a genuine email. If so, do you have to update it regularly ?

Not sure as yet as I havnt clicked on to update. A bit worried :>(
I did have this recently, but it was because I'd changed my bank account so I needed to go through the process of confirming it.
If you think it may be a scam and not from Paypal themselves, then I would phone them first and get them to confirm. 08707 307 191.
thanks, we havnt changed our bank for 40 years !! Will think about it over the next couple days and work out what to do according to any welcome responses on here
Chelle makes a very good point actually. Log into your Paypal the usual way and if there's anything you need to do, like update your account, it will come up when you log in. If not, then just ignore and discard the email you've received. Mine was specifically because I'd changed info. Sounds very much like your's is a fake.
PayPal never email you to ask you to update your account, if they do email you for any other reason they will address you by name, never by 'dear customer'.
Daffy beat me to it. Pay Pal would never say 'Dear Pay Pal customer' it would be by name, this is one way to detect fraudulent emails.
Forward it to Pay Pal. sorry got to go off to work.
If I have any emails purporting to come from banks of any kind, including Paypal I delete them immediately. If you put in your details they will have access to your bank account. They are trying to scam you.
If you hover over the address of the link they want you to click on it will show an address that is not paypal. Don't click on the link though.
You could forward it to [email protected] before you delete it
if you can create a disposable e-mail address make up a new one just for paypal and change it in your paypal security settings, then you will know next time if it is a scam ,I get them but I know they are fakes for that reason.
I used to get identical one long before I ever had a PayPal account, just delete it and phone paypal or wait to see if your next purchase goes through ok.
Any email threatening suspension unless you click on it is 100% phishing. Paypal do not send out emails like this.

DO NOT DO THIS! Not now and not ever.
I have had these emails in the past.i just ignore them, however, when I first got one,I did ring PayPal to check if genuine,if you addressed by your name,I think they said they were...sorry...it was a while back now and can`t remember but as I have already said...do nothing.
