Didn't quite know where to ask this question so chose Law. An elderly pal of mine is now living with an elderly lady friend ( 2 lonely hearts together aww).
He would like to have BT Broadband & pay by direct debit but she is the house owner & pays the BT phone bill, she is bothered about taking on another account her concern quite rightly so is should my pal die in the near future she would be left holding an account she doesn't really want. What are my mates options, can he for instance pay only the broadband account in his name as he is not the householder ?
Since BT holds the virtual monopoly on the 'final mile' (the copper or fibre distance from house to local exchange), unless one buys one's telecomms products from a cable supplier (Virgin?), the house is tied to BT for its voice line rental.
So I don't see how he can buy Broadband from BT without it being bundled onto the voice service. He could buy a broadband product from one of the other providers though.
