With the exception of a mortgage. Having watched several programmes on how a credit card protects you I decided to apply for one. Our mortgage was paid up in 2004. I do not want to be refused so can anyone tell me which one to apply for? Anything I buy will be paid for in full when they send the monthly bill. Oh I don't want an annual fee. Can anyone make a suggestion. I should add that I am retired.

Barclaycard,MBNA,there are loads if you shop around.
As you will be paying in full you will not need to worry about the interest rates. Instead you will be able to get a credit card which offers you rewards or rewards to a charity. If you use a supermarket consider having one of their credit cards as it would give you bonuses in store. Otherwise have a charity one from this list

Thanks to both of you. I will check them out.
HSBC offer free travel ins when you buy your hols with their card, and their banks are global which is handy in foreign climes.

I may be being over cautious but looking at the online applications they all want my bank details. I don't feel confident enough to give them that information.
Does your own bank have anything to offer ?
Would you feel happier picking up an application form from the high street Jeza and fill it in that way? I think most will want your bank details as they have to check you out. They don't give credit cards to people with huge debts and that's their only way of knowing that you don't.
Its quite normal & safe as they need to know if your a illegal immigrant or gangsta ;)

You are both right. Next time I'm in town I will go in to my bank and ask. Thank you both.
