I have heard that if someone is on the sick cos they are an alcholic or a drug addict,they get an extra fiver a day...what is the sense in that...helping to feed their addiction!!!!

I knew an alcoholic once that used to get beer on prescription. That was a long time ago and they have possibly changed it to this.
I'd think a better question would be, is that true? And if so, why?

No, it is not true.
They do get extra money but I'm don't think it's labelled as beer money.

Going cold turkey can kill you so that's the reason why.

It is not unknown for those who are alcoholics or drug addicts to maintain employment so why should folk think these folk receive extra benefits automatically as a result of their addictions?
If they are employed they won't be claiming benefits.
That is what I am getting at, being an addict does not prevent employment so there is no need to pay extra automatically, as recognition of their being an addict.
Some alcoholics can function normally but many can't.

It was regards to unemployed ...on sickness benefit...or whatever it is called now.
