Money Taken By Online Banking Transfer

My ex boyfriend has signed into my online banking (he knew password) and transfered money into his account, now he's saying I did it because I owed it to him! I have phoned my bank and fraud department are now involved, but how likely am I to get this back?! How can I prove it wasn't me!!

Where did he sign into it from? If you haven't already, change all your passwords now

Did you give him the password? If you did and the bank is aware of this, i am afraid it is unlikely the bank will give you your money back.

Your bank could argue that you were at fault for letting ANYBODY know your password- so may refuse to re-imburse you.

Sadly, I agree - if he knew your password, you weren't being careful enough. You should have changed the password as soon as you split up.

Bank will probably wheedle out of it as you revealed your password to another party, something their T&C will prohibit.

He's signed into it from a mobile app but if the phone isn't registered to someone can it be traced? And yes I gave him the password months ago when we were together, I've changed them now but a little too late by the sounds of things!!

Unfortunately, by giving him your password, you've more-or-less given him permission to help himself

Do NOT tell the bank that he knew the password, or that you'd told him, etc.
Plead ignorance and say he must have found it written down in your diary, or some other secretive place; although to be honest, I'm not sure if this would be a good enough defence .... but it's worth a shot and is better than telling the bank that you'd told him your password.

The matter with the password is an issue for the bank but you could report the facts to the police as a theft of money against you and a fraud against the bank.

I can't see the police being interested as she willingly gave him the password to her account.

I wonder how many other people he's passed it on to?

Why on earth would you give your password to a boyfriend?
