I am looking at buying a pair, but theres so much choice. They start at 25 euros and go up to 179 euros. The pair i quite liked were 120 euros, which i found in the walking section, strange enough, i found another pair very similar for 85 euros, the difference was they were in the hunting section!!
What should i do?
by the way, the shop is decathlon in madrid.

You need to put two pairs of socks on - a thin pair next to the feet, then a thicker pair and try both types on and see how they feel.
Are they waterproof? If so, are they breathable?
Nothing worse than overheated, sweaty feet in unbreathable or soaking boots.

no, go and look around at sports shops, try on, don't be swayed by the prices, if its 200 quid a pair and some are, ignore, as you can get decent walking boots for less than half that. Mine cost me 70 quid and i still have them 15 years on.
Try places like Blacks, Lillywhites, Mountainview, sorry not sure that's their name it's something like that, they deal in walking, cycling, climbing wear,
boots, shoes, bags, clothing that sort of stuff. Look online to get a clear picture, some of the dearer boots are named, after someone famous, generally ignore because they will be much more expensive.
and JD sports they do decent enough boots....

my memories of walking boots 25 years ago, was blisters!! i hope i dont have to go through that again
sometimes you do, once you get used to them. good advice from HC,
it does depend on what type of walking, as there are different types, lighter one for easy terrain, but leather boots for harder terrain, mountain walking,
it does vary
Have a look at 'Regatta' boots.
Thanks emmie, I don't know how to do links :-)
ok.
just google the name, say regatta, when the link comes up, click on and copy the link name, site, and then paste that into the response, then submit.
Thanks emmie, I'll give it a go.
And if you find the perfect boot that is still comfortable after 6 months, buy an identical pair because when you need to buy them they'll be discontinued.
Walking boots either fit or they don't ! You can't kick of your shoes at 2000 feet, because they are pinching a bit !

Go to a proper outdoors shop and be prepared to spend at least an hour in choosing the pair that fits, and then, spend whatever that pair costs !

Its also important to choose boots that will suit the kind of walking that you intend to do. Its daft to spend money on a pair that Chris Bonnington would take to Everest, when all you intend to do is have a quick shuffle around your local canal path.

Don't even think of buying boots in the internet....a good fit is paramount !
i found mine in a good sports shoe/ boot outlet, and i got a lot of walking out of my 70 quid. admittedly off the internet is difficult because as you say they need to fit, but i don't agree that they have to fit exactly right off, as with leather boots, they can be a bit tight to start with, and as you wear them you get accustomed to their fit, and they mould to your feet, also try them on with boot socks... as HC suggested. Even very good boots can be wrong for you, and you can waste a lot of money, it
does depend on what type of walking, hiking you are planning.
Are Yeoman's still Trading? Over the years Trish and I have each had several pairs from them. They always had a good range of boots of various types and prices and the staff were usually quite knowledgeable about the boots needed for different purposes as well as the care they needed.
Cotton traders do good walking boots and shoes .had mine for years now think I paid about £60
I don't know where about's you live but if you're near Mansfield there's a little family owned business on Rosemary Street called Slacks. Been in business years with a good rep for quality goods, value for money, advice and after care.
i actually don't think Cotton traders boots are all that good, i bought some and they are unwearable.
i do have some winter anti slip boots i bought from cotton traders, so ugly they should get an award for their clumpiness, but they don't slip, let water, they keep your feet toastie and warm. But no good for long walks as after an hour your legs feel like they will fall off
