ATM's can get it wrong, but I would certainly contact your bank asap.
Phone your bank asap diesel.
Did you ask for a balance print-out?

I hope that you get it sorted out.
Banks have a 24 help-line service to report lost cards so I would try that number NOW!
credit card have a 24 h number on the back

cancel it if in doubt

I dont think you have been scammed more possibly cloned

could others use the machine ?

If it turns out you have been cloned then joining CIFAS is a good idea ( £30 a y for two y )
If you took out £40 the machine would not give you £300, assuming that is the daily limit. Did you not try a smaller amount, e.g.£200?
Agreed ring your banks but as suggested if 2 different cards went wrong the ATM could have been faulty, did you see others get any money? You could of course go and try a different one to settle your mind.
I think Blackadder's answer is the most likely...if your daily limit is £300 and you've already had £30...it's not going to give you £300.
^^ yes if you have already had £30 out you could not get another £300 out. Do you have online banking? if not then get it, you could have sorted this out in seconds with online banking.
Your credit card account is separate from your bank account. It may be that it has a limit on withdrawals or you did not have that much credit available.
Try making a withdrawal for a smaller amount- and see what happens
deiseldick, the ATM'S that I use will only allow you to withdraw £300 per day.

As long as you report it ASAP it won't matter if it was a scam or not - the bank will refund any money taken if done without your consent. For future reference; if you think there is something wrong with the machine then look around the outside of it (but don't touch anything you wouldn't normally touch) to see if anything doesn't look right. After doing that call the bank who's machine it belongs to and they will investigate. Also contact your own bank and they will put a stop on your card(s). Been there and worn the t-shire (never been scammed though, just found a 'bent' machine).
I'm full of typos tonight. *t-shirt.
Have you heard back from the bank, dieseldick?
I was wondering too
Hopefully it all turned out to be a misunderstanding
