Billed Before Goods Delivered

I’ve ordered furniture in-store from Laura Ashley using my store card, which is built to order and therefore hasn’t been delivered, nor do I have a scheduled delivery date.

I’ve got my monthly statement and the full balance is due before the end of this month, even though I have no goods, and they are not going to be delivered before then.

Where do I stand on paying, and the legalities of invoicing….. I was under the impression you can’t invoice for goods that haven’t despatched / delivered?!

Thanks

Of course you can be charged before receiving the good. Just look at Amazon.
Amazon don't charge until the goods are despached, Ummmm.
Don't they?
true re amazon,,,,,,,,,,
There is no way I would pay for these goods without first checking them out Neg, if they do not like your views, stop the order.
in effect you're paying them for materials and manufacturing, which you don't do with Amazon. They need some sort of security that you're not just going to change your mind. You could try contacting them and pointing out that you'd like a delivery date, though, otherwise you're the one taking all the risk.
Jno is right, the fact that the furniture is built to order is probably the reason.
Our friend ordered a Kitchen, I suggested not to sign for it without seeing the lot assembled, this they did, on unpacking the goods they were scratched, missing bits. & the quality was rubbish.

It's not an on-line order, so the Amazon question is a seperate one, and as consumers we are governed by different rules for long distance selling.... they may take details for payment, but not process until goods are delivered.

TWR.... yes don't want to pay for them at least until i have a firm date, but it's the legalities i'm after so when i call to have a moan, i have some basis to rely on.
If she has ordered Hopkirk she is going into a contract, so L.A. could sue if Neg Faulted, but I still would not pay.

The security for the store is that i made a contract with the store when i agreed to purchase, so i have no basis to not pay for the good's, it's when payment becomes due?!
Sorry Neg, cross posts, as said you need to get the Del Time / Date / Day but I still would not pay.
How I understand it though it has been years since I did contact law is that you should of been made aware of their terms and conditions before purchasing.
I think it will depend on the contract terms.
It's common to pay for things like holidays before we go on them and I've paid for furniture at the store for delivery a few weeks later
