Validity Of Signed Contracts
Hi,
I have a question about signing contracts if anyone is able to answer please.
I can give more details if needed but here goes.
I signed two contracts (tenancy agreement and a repayment plan for arrears).
However I was in hospital recovering from major surgery. I was on Diamorphine, anti sickness tablets and other combinations of pain medication.
The tenant came to the hospital asking for them to be signed urgently because they needed the signed contracts as part of a vetting system for an mod job.
Usually I am pretty clued up on contracts but tbh I couldn't even concentrate on reading the magazines people had given me so I didn't/wasn't able to get a good handle on them.
I made one obvious change (from 7 to 8 months arrears) but only mentioned the one (on later inspection there were three) discrepancies in the tenancy agreement.
I made it clear that I was unable to fully read them and that although I was signing for her benefit (vetting process) I would read it properly when I was home and able to take it in and that there will need to be changes.
Now I know you shouldn't sign documents when you are taking things like Diamorphine but when you are on them you don't realise would the contracts still be valid?
Thank you

you almost certainly will be bound by them
One of tenants May 12 stopped paying rent when he heard I was undergoing chemotherapy and when the day came to chuck him out - that is the court hearing I pointed out the coincidence and the opposing paralegal said " I dont think that is relevant "
and I said: it is relevant if you are the one not getting the money !
and she kinda shut up after that
there was no question of the legality of any the proceedings
from what you have written it is quite clear that your signature would be held to be valid ( or else we would all do it wouldnt we - ? My little doggie died on the day I signed such-and-such so I want to roll back the contract etc etc )
Hahaha he owed £ 1500 rent and had the bulls to go to the housing dept and allege they had overpaid me by £ 45. 23, but I had already seen that and made a voluntary declaration about it to the housing....how very decent of him I told the court to inform the housing they had over paid me by fifty quid when he owed me one and half grand. I got possession.
Go at it girl - you have to kick them out as they will never pay ....
