none of my direct debits have come out the bank, according to my
online statement, could this be because of the bank holiday,
as i am sure this doesn't normally happen.

Yes, they won't come out until Tuesday.

Having said that, the money will have been 'ring-fenced'. If you look at your balance and available balance you will sometimes find a discrepancy. This is because the bank has earmarked certain payments to be made which have not yet appeared on your statement.

It can be a it confusing at times. For example most of my monthly bills are paid on the 8th of the month when my pensions is paid in. Should the 8th fall on a weekend or bank holiday my pension is paid in on the last working day before whereas the payments out are not made until the first day after. I made some payments with my debit card on Thursday which have not yet appeared on my statement, and won't until Tuesday, yet they are in the system as my available balance is less than the actual one shown on my statement.
