genuine attempt by the council to regenerate the borough? or a cynical attempt to rid the borough of what some might call the less salubrious element of the population?

What do you mean by Social Cleansing? Have you been to Haringey?
Not to put too fine a point on it, Haringey is a dump, I worked there for 3 years. The housing is substandard and desperately needs repairs and improvement. Given the situation,that Haringey council owns land but lacks money, this seems to be a solution.

^ The population is about 80% Afro Caribbean, very rare to see a white face in Haringey.
I think the fuss by Labour is due to a Labour council getting in league with a large housing development company, the shareholders / board members of the company I assume to be mainly Tory.

That’s right, TTT. Keep ‘em poor – keep ‘em voting Labour. Heaven forbid that aspiration and achievement should be allowed creep in. The poor, no longer so poor, will be off like a shot!
