Im sure Asda do allow you to use visa electron on their site and I have used mine on the tesco site so I know that works. Amazon.co.uk accept it as do play.com, marks and spencers and sainsburys. Electron is not as widely used as other cards as it is usually given to people who have a poor credit history or young people with their first bank account but the major stores use it. I think you may also find that where some places state that you can use visa you may also be able to use electron though this is not always the case But you can always put in your details and they will soon tell you if you can't. Hope this helps
When the Electron cards were introduced they were designed to be used exclusively face to face. With the explosion of shopping over the phone and on t'internet everyone's had to rethink this but it's still not as widely accepted as proper debit cards.
There's nothing stopping any shop (other than the cost to them) from accepting Electron over t'internet or phone these days.
i think some banks give "electron" card to customers who are under 18 dont they? Im sure i had an electron card on my coop account that i had when io was 16. Perhaps thats why they dont accept distant transaction - in fact im sure there was a report about it on newsround on tuesady

Scorpio17 I sympathise. I recently purchased some clothes from Debenhams. As I was about to pay, the assistant said: "Sorry, we don't take Visa Electron". I had to go down escalators and through the shopping centre to get a cash machine, then go all the way back up to pay!

I also wasted half an hour ordering online from Asda. I was going to Amsterdam for a couple of days and liked the idea of my shopping being delivered a few hours after I got back. Had a great timr choosing what I wanted to buy (and not have to lug up 3 flights of stairs). Then, at the last hurdle.....they had no facility to take Visa Electron.

Visa Electron users should all email companies that don't accept our cards and get them to do something!!

thanks for all your comments and help with my visa electron query i did exactly the same thing jkkerr ordering from asda online took me ages then they decided to tell me they dont accept electron you would think they would tell you the method of payments they take before you start shopping i had even registered with them so now i keep getting emails from asda with offers and i keep replying to them saying i would shop with them if they accepted my form of payment, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears because they still keep emailing me asking me to shop with them.
Tesco do not accept Visa Electron online at the moment. I used to shop with them and had to discontinue once my debit card changed from solo to electron. Sainsbury's accept Visa Electron though. It is a total pain because when Solo first came out, I had trouble using it in many stores. Now that my bank changed to Electron, Solo is more widely accepted than ever before. A bit of a joke if you ask me!
Asda Home shopping definitely DO take Visa Electron, despite what they tell you. Just input the card as a Visa and it goes through!
I think this page will help you find shops accepting visa electron:
