However, assuming for the moment that this post is genuine, anyone in the UK who offers financial advice by way of business has to be qualified and licensed, so they're not going to give their services for free. The only firms that might offer free financial advice would be those who make commission from their recommendations (meaning that they're not independent). Such practices are banned in the UK, so any firm working to such a model would have to be overseas and thus (worryingly) not regulated by the UK authorities.

If you are looking for debt advice or pension information, Danny's link is good. If it is investment advice, it would be better to find a recommended IFA and meet face to face. They would need to know all your circumstances, future plans, what level of risk you are prepared to take (or not) and give advice for a plan that fits all your requirements. Annual reviews should then take place to ascertain any changes in your lifestyle/future plans to ensure they can adapt things to suit.

Independent Financial advisors .. may offer an initial consultation for free. But should you go ahead and invest, I'm afraid they will make a charge, usually a percentage of the amount to be invested, or charge you at an hourly rate.

You could also simply ask for advice here. There may be other ABers who've gone down the route that you're considering and who can warn you about any potential pitfalls.

think seriously about ISAs
