does anyone know why it takes so long to get refunds from say an item one bought, i mean when you buy goods on line the money is taken out instantly.. im due refunds from several outlets one has a policy of taking 7 days to refund your money. this seems absurd.

About thirty years ago, I moved from Sheffield to Suffolk. Some time later, I made the mistake of actually waiting for the red electricity bill, before then paying up immediately, two quarters in succession. I got a very nasty letter from Eastern Electricity (as it was in those days), telling me that if had the temerity to wait for a red bill again, they'd take immediate court action to get their money from me. In the same post I had a cheque from the Yorkshire Electricity Board, refunding an overpayment on my old Sheffield account, which had taken them just under two years to process!
As I say, nothing ever changes where money is concerned ;-)

Retailers first have to check that the item is in good condition, unused and re-sellable only then will they process a refund. I believe what they say is that the refund will take up to 5 days to show on your credit card statement.
If I was still owed money after that period, I would be following it up by a phone call followed by a letter and keeping copies of any correspondence.
