investing in property - where's the best

I have a bit of money to spare, not enough to buy a house outright but enough for a modest deposit (say 20 grand max). I am thinking of buying a property abroad with a view to reninting it out, prehaps a ski apartment - I would not necessarily want to stay in it myself and it would be better if I could hand it over to a company to manage and provide secure income. So far I have been considering Finnish winter chalets and French leasebacks in the Alps - anyone got any better suggestions? Thanks in advance
