yes but it has been 7 months and the person has been getting mail to my house and she has not moved a finger to come round and to say to me if any mail comes for me can you please hand in to my new address which by the way is only a block of house up from me, but now she has a birthday card sent she comes round, so who is in the worng here and is it ilegal , thanks for the reply
It is illegal to destroy mail that does not belong to you or to open it. If it is causing a problem, write to the manager of your local sorting office and ask them to intercept it at their end for her. Then you will have no problems and they are more than happy to do this for you.

thank you, im just upset i think that the lady may call the police, she maybe thinks i stole something important to her in her mail, dont realy know what to do, any advice on what to do ??
I was very careful to forward any mail adderssed to the former owners of my house for 5 years. Now 9 years after they left I just bin anything that comes here.

I also used to receive phone calls for them - I've always wondered why they moved so quietly!!!

yeah my mother had the same problem, the peple who left her house got into so much debt, debt collectors at the door all the time, so do you guys think i shouldnt worry to much about this ??
its so annoyin isnt it former tennants still have bank statements and wage slips sent to our address even our landlord does i just chuck any junk mail and return anything that looks important its probably wrong but im not gona spend the rest of my time being their personal post office
As previousley stated. Write to PO manager at your delivery office and explain that your getting, on a regular basis, mail addressed to j.bloggs and that there is no such person living at your address and you don't want to be responsible for someone elses property,so will they please not send any mail with the name j.bloggs to your address. Hopefully they'll make a special instruction card for the delivery officers walk, which he/she of. should read and take note of. If the delivery officer knows the new address of j.bloggs,he can either redirect of his/her own accord,or sign it off gone away. But don't bin it,it's not yours to destroy, even if it's junk mail
Question Author
thank you for your reply, but if i dont bin it what will i do, my local postman does'nt come until 11.am and me and my girlfriend are out of the house most of the day, so do i just keep the letters ??
Most of them will have a return address, if this is the case then get some sticky labels and cover the address panel then write on the label:

NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADRRESS
SENDER: REMOVE FROM YOUR RECORDS
PO: RETURN TO SENDER

do this for anything you can.

ANd dont worry about her going to police thast you have stolen something. To prove it was delivered it would have to have been recorded delivery and you wouldnt sign for something that wasnt for you would you.
Dont lose any sleep. If I was you I'd return to sender for a while as described above (getting them to remove from mailing lists) then just start binning it. Not your problem.
send a note to this woman telling her she must get her mail redirected as from now on you will be binning it

and also follow the numerous advice others have already given to you.

cross out her name and write on the envelope, 'no longer at this address' and put it back into a post box.
