Anyone had any dealings with Mackenzie Hall?
51 Answers
Hi, I received an SMS message on my home phone today asking me to contact Mackenzie Hall and they gave me a reference number. I ignored it cos I didn't know who they were, but I've googled the name and found they're a debt collection agency specialising in recovering really old debts, CCJ's etc - thing is I don't have any and I'm really worried about it as I've been reading some nasty stories about them. What should I do - contact them or ignore?

You all either owe money or think you might owe money!!
Here's a completely wacky suggestion- Pay your debt, accept responsibility and do something about it, maybe even spend less time trying to justify neglecting to honour your financial commitments and more time earning money to pay your debts, stop relying on other people to pay the price for your neglect.
Of course they aren't going to be extra nice, they are not trying to sell you something they are trying to make you do what you should have done however many years ago.
Anyway if had enough, i'm off to get a loan, have a holiday, buy a car and then bleat about the nasty people who want me to pay it all back :(

jon161073, do you work for such a company by any chance??
You are judging people by simple questions and comments. most of the people here do not dispute that the owe money or that it should be paid, however in most case some of these debts could be considered closed if the original creditors have not tried to obtain this money. I am aware of someone who is being chased by the said company for a debt that was infact closed during a bankruptch order. Most of these people are saying that regardless to being in debt, we all have the right to be spoken to with respect and treated fairly. These debt recovery agencies do not have the right to ignore basic human rights.
another things is there not something that says the only person that can enforce a CCJ is the original creditor?
Dont be fools, do not pay until you are sure that the debt is yours and recoverable. Do not supply personal data to them if they do not tell you them first. They are chasing you for the debt, let them prove its you they want to "talk" to first.

hi there. in answer to Jon 161073 not everyone who is posting A or Q on this site in the daytime is out of work, i am taking my break right now from work so your reasoning is a bit pre-judgmental isn't it? i myself us a debt management company and although i pay a small monthly fee it is worth it so that i don't have to deal directly with these bully boys (&girls), either over the telephone or via mail. i agree that there are SOME people out there who make a career of gaining loans etc and have no intention of paying it back but the majoity of people truly get into financial difficulties and need assistance. remember Jon161073 you never know what's going to happen in your life.
Angrylil, you just proved my point about trying to get away with no paying your debt, looking for a clause about time limits etc, -Did you borrow the money? then pay it back, simple,.
Not "well lets see how i can avoid this"
Its quite sad reallt because people will have trouble getting amortgage now due to companies offering debt to people who do not have the decency to pay it back, take responsibility!

Hi I am a part-time barmaid on maternity leave after having my child 4 months ago. According to Mackenzie Hall even though I am paying a debt I know was previously paid (my mother paid it with part of her divorce settlement) because I no longer have the receipts I have to repay it so being responsible I went through payplan who pay them 13 per month. This it seems is not good enough and they have now taken to ringing me and trying to bully me into paying more when I pointed out their clients are robbing sods who are getting payment themselves and through them they got very confrontational and told me they were cancelling their deal with me as i was unwilling to co-operate and my general bad attitude, i rang back to complain and the new colleague was even more sanctimonious telling me it was my own fault etc and that I should be grateful for their tolerance and pay more to satisfy their client at which point i just told them take me to court and I will be cancelling the payment to them as their clients being paid anyway. So do yourselves a favour don't deal with them other than via CAB or a solicitor,
i recieved a letter off mackenzie hall for a debt wich isnt mine, although in my name from 3 yrs ago.a so called friend had things out of my catalogue and never paid.i sent her details to the catologue who said they would sort the matter out,,,then i get a letter asking for money,,,,SHOULD I PAY IT?????
i had a message on my landline number to phone them which was strange seeing as i'm ex directory. they were trying to get hold of my partner. i asked what it was regarding and was told it was nothing to do with me it was a financial matter. when i said if you phone and dont explain what you're ringing for how can i help you i was told if i didn't answer my phone they would send someone round to my house. the man i spoke to had a horrible attitude. apparantly it is from something 6 years ago my partner thought had all been paid.
Hi all yea ive had these ppl trying to contact me for about the last 12 months for a debt that goes back to 2003 0r 2004. I wont pay it because i beleive RBS accted irrisponsably giving me a credit card with a £3000 credit limit when i wasnt even working at the time . If i end up having to speak to them i will ask them to prove that i owe this money and how much and will mention that its older than 6years hopefully they will leave me alone then and if they dont ill just tell them to take me to court. Are they allowed access to your premises if they havnt took me to court if yet and do the police have to be there or can they just force entry in to your home ?? mart
Hi, I have also had some very nasty dealings with MH and I eventually found an online solicitor who said that because MH were trying to claim a debt that they had bought from my creditors who had gone into liquidation years ago (claiming £2500) and that the debt was more than 6 years old, then MH could not legally try to make me pay this. I had not renaged on paying this debt, but when my original finance company went bump, and no-one chased me for the debt, I fogot all about it until MH started sending me letters and also leaving texts on my mobile (don't know how they got my number!). If anyone is interested the site that I found is called Justanswer.uklaw. I got excellent legal advice from a barrister, who asked for a payment of just £11.00, then asked me if I wanted to make a further 'donation' if I was happy with their service - under no obligation - I got the advice before they asked if I wanted to make any further donations, which I did, their response, even on a Friday night was very rapid. I recommend this serive highly.
Hi, I received the sms message on my home phone as well, I called them to find out what it was, and they were looking for someone who has never even lived at my address and i have been here for 12 years and have no debt. they would not tell me how they got my phone number and they were very rude, i did tell them not to call again or i would go the fsa
I have received a urgent voice message this morning off MH on my home phone. I phoned them, got an answer but becaus i hadn't written the reference number down correctly, the man was extremely rude. and hung up on me.
Thanks to every body on here i feel a bit better, and will taking all your advice.
Thanks again.

Of course both jon161073 and Oneeyedvic work for DCA's - it is why they have the stinking attitude on display!
Jon161073, I would gladly see you messed up in some way! Oneeyedvic, you seem to be playing good cop, encouraging people to make the call to these scum!
Do everyone on this discussion, (who are concerned for what is nothing short of harrassment) and stop trying to sell promote your phoney companies! When nobody responds to your text messages, it will be YOU who has no job!!!
You pair of silly little slugs!
Oh and no, I don't have any debts - so put that in your pipes and smoke it!

i have just had MH call the office where i work. How did they know i work here and get the number for my desk as i am an agency worker so not on the records. I told them there was on-one here by that name as i dont want to discuss my personel business in an open plan office. Can they call back and how did they know i was here?
I would ignore them, i am having dealings with them for a debt which is over 10 years old!!! I have been told that after 10 years a debt is then written off, or something along those lines. They cannot re open the debt unless you agree to start paying it back. They then bully you with threats about bailiffs and court, but just ignore them.
I had a letter from them back in March, which I managed to mislay. I found it the other day and decided to call them to say I'd lost the letter could they send me a copy. After giving my postcode (nothing else...they confirmed the rest) they said that it had been referred back to the client and they were no longer dealing with it. They gave me the client's phone number and said they were called Lowell Portfolio. Previous digging has shown me that Lowell Portfolio are scam artists and have never responded to anything I have had from them. It seems as though it's one big chain!
