Bankrupt boyfriend! Is this what has affected my credit rating?

My Boyfriend went bankrupt 6 months ago and now I don't seem to be able to get any credit, we live together. is there anyway I can get rpound this?

Yes. Technically it should not affect your credit, but in reality it can.

If you get the free credit report from Experian you will see all people 'associated' with you,and your partner's name will be there.

Remember to cancel your membership when you have printed off the report, otherwise you will be charged after one month.

You need to file a Notice of Dissociation with the credit reference agencies.

It's towards the bottom of the page. You will be stating you have no financial ties with your partner, that finances are dealt with individually and separately, and you are not liable for his debts.

This should help you to get credit.

The above should work unless you do have any joint accounts, or a joint mortgage. If you do, then you do have a financial association & there is probably nothing you can do about it unless you can somehow separate the accounts. Even then, the past association may well stay on the records but, if so, you could get a note of explanation put on them.
