How do I transfer balances?

I know that might sound stupid! Basically I got sucked into getting a storecard last year and ended up running up a rather large bill, the interest rate is very high and I can't see myself ever paying it off. I'm thinking of applying for a credit card with an interest free period, so that I can pay it off faster and easier. But how do I actually transfer a balance from my storecard onto a credit card ??

When you apply for the credit card, either online, by phone or by paper form, there is always a 'transfer box' where you give the details of the card you wish to transfer the balance from and the amount.

Be aware that most cards now charge a fee for transferring balances - usually around 3%
