Getting toys marketed

I have no idea which category to put this question in, so decided on this as I am wanting to use the outcome to help me make a bit of money. I have handmade a range of thirteen toys all of the same theme but different characters, and handmade and illustrated boxes for them too. I have had many positive comments about them and have been advised to make them to sell. For me to hand make all of them over and over again is too time consuming though because just one character and box has taken me at least a day to do. I was wondering how other factory made toys get into the shops. I have heard about people inventing toys (for example those strange poo and pee toys invented by a student) and getting them marketed. Does anybody know how you go about this?. Do I approach factories and ask them if they are interested, or do I go somewhere else?. If anybody could point me in the right direction I would be really grateful. Thankyou.
