Steps to take over property rights with ex partner
1 Answers
I was with my ex partner for 6 years, in which time we rented a house for a year before buying a property.I was a student at the time and the decision was made that the mortgage be in his name only, I was however mentioned as living there on the deeds. My father also gave us 3000 as a deposit. I lived there around 4years then we split up and I moved out. Since then I have not taken any material items that we bought together from the house ie sofa, washing machine, fridge etc. Whilst in the house I paid half for everything and my name was on almost all bills including council tax. I would also bank transfer money to my partner for half of the mortgage payments. The house was bought for 37k.It is now worth around 100k. Around a yr after spliting I took steps to try and recoup some of the money as i feel I have an entitlement to some of the profit. He refused to remortgage saying he was unable to afford it and generally fobbed me off. 3yrs have now passed and I am sick of trying to get money.I now have a son and am desperate for money for a deposit on my own property. I was advised by citizens advise that I am definately entitled to something as I contributed for 4yrs, not only financially but also to the update and refurbishment. My expartner says he is in the process of looking into equity release but this was around 6wks ago and I cant help but think I am being fobbed off. Can anyone suggest what steps I can take to getting this matter resolved asap.
Many thanks
