Mileage Allowance

I am being given a mileage allowance for a journey which is a round trip of 280 miles. How do I work out the cost? Is there a standard rate. I know cars use different amounts of diesel, and my friend is taking me in her Landcruiser which will be expensive but I want to know realistically how much I can charge.

If this is a business trip, the maximum allowed by the Inland Revenue is 44p per mile

No not a business trip, I am judging at a dog show. Is that a reasonable amount to charge? When I worked for a card company I was getting 25p per mile but that was only for a small engined car, I think it was 30p and 35p for larger engines.
