Best Place for a Holiday Home
I am looking for a holiday home abroad for myself and my family. My question is where is the best place to buy one? I am looking for a place that hasn't been "over-discovered" and where property bargains still exist. It must be within 2 or 3 hours flight from the UK and must have mild weather during the winter (not too far north). Really appreciate any comments and suggestions!

You have given me much food for thought. Croatia and Bulgaria worry me because they are not far enough south (weather), availability of flights and infrastructure (not much going on for my kids!). Would prefer to fly from Southampton or Bournemouth for ease and speed. Southern Atlantic coast of Spain - too windy and sea too cold and rough. Cyprus - maybe - weather is great, prices reasonable - I will investigate! Sounds like I am being fussy - come to think of it, I probably am! When I find the right place, you're all invited for some vino and a BBQ! Kind Regards, Neil
Hello Neil, the problem is that flight times of only 2 or 3 hours you really won't get further than southern spain etc. However if you could stretch to another hour maybe you could try one of the lesser developed canary islands, obviously gran canaria and tenerie are the most commercial but there are parts of lanzarote, la gomera and fuertaventura that are fairly untouched and unspoiled, plus all the other canary islands apart from tenerife have a ban on buildings over a certain amount of storeys to prevent commercialisation. Might be worth checking out anyway, and just thought of malta as well but that might be a bit grannified...
Many thanks for that Becks! "Grannified" - sounds like my favourite type of bread! I know what you mean about Malta though. The Canaries may well be worth investigating. I can fly there from Bournemouth and Southampton and nice weather all year round. I have always been put off a bit by Tenerife and Lanzarote (I know they have nice areas, especially inland). Might well look into the lesser known Canary Islands. Never heard of La Gomera so may well research it. You might be first on my list for the BBQ! Kind Regards, Neil
