what happens on a crb check - how much info is given?

Hi - when a crb check is done - how much info does it give about any conviction? I.e. would it say "convicted 1995" or would it say "convicted of criminal damage 1995" or would it say "convicted of criminal damage 1995 18 months probation"?

Also on a job application form what do they usually ask? Would it be do you have a criminal record, if yes give details?

Have filled in a few forms for my son and yes all of them asked for details of any criminal records, which I'm glad to say my son has not got!!!!

And most wanted explicit details!

is normally only on police files for a maxium of 7 years

so it may come out a clean record x
depends on what employment your going for x

I believe it would give details as different employers have different requirments - i.e they would be looking for theft convictions where a post involved responsibility over money and so on.

Mine says no convictions so I can't give you an example of the wording!

And yes that is what it says on a job application.

Always best to be honest - or you may end up with a conviction for fraud?!

harryshaw,for your infomation,any criminal conviction stays on your record for LIFE,not 7 yrs,it might well be spent after a certain time,but if a enhanced CRB check is done all convictions will show up,the date,the court,the offence,the sentence,all of these will show up.

if the job you are applying for is exempt fromt he rehabilitation of offenders act, you will have to disclose everything

For the purpose in an Enhanced CRB "exempt from he rehabilitation of offenders act," is irrelevant.

It will show the date of conviction, offence and sentence/penalty received.
If you are having an enhanced level CRB all convictions will show even those normally deemed spent.
Be truthful on self declaration DO NOT hide anything as it will only come back to haunt you.

So let me get this straight. Those unfortunate enough to have an old conviction thats spent can, as they always have done, tick the "No convictions" box on a normal job application

If there's a standard CRB check, then nothing comes back

If there's an enhanced CRB check, then everything comes back.

If the job is exempt from the rehabillitation of offenders act (teacher, hospital worker etc) -then you have to declare any spent convictions anyway in the first place
