What's your best money saving tip ?

Mine is - when shopping in the supermarket, always write a list beforehand and stick to it, do not get carried away by all the wonderful goodies on offer. If you didn't need it when you wrote the shopping list, you probably don't need it now.

My best money saving tip is to go shopping late evening. You get bread, cakes and loads of other things really cheap if you go late.
Definitely agree with Tigger there. Fantastic reduced-to-clear stuff around 7/8pm in most big supermarkets. What you don't eat the same day, just freeze!
Don't throw out left-overs, freeze it. It always comes in handy in an emergency or when you get in late from work.

When the toothpaste is finish cut open the tube. You'll find enough toothpaste to last three or four times.
Never buy a new car.

I drive a very nice 4x4 with free servicing, tax, tyres etc on a private lease for less than 700 pcm.

Yes, I will never own it but after two years I get a brand new 60-70K car.

What would that be on finance??? 2k a month?
yup. Also, in an emergency, you can add warm water to empty bottles of shampoo or shower gel, and shake. Always enough for at least one or two uses!
Another one I got from whiskeysherry: when your mascara has dried out, place in a glass of hot water for a while. It'll soften the product inside and you can use it further.

Agree with you there Abdul, the depreciation is massive in the first 10 minutes of a car's life.... I never thought of simply leasing one though.... mind, do you really need a 4x4 in your line of work ? I often have to drive a works jeep or other off road car but my employers pay for that.

Max... I can tell somehow that the mascara tip is not going to be too useful for me.... I've only worn it once and it drove me to distraction... I had large panda eyes after I had rubbed them sore...lol
My carbon footprint is reduced by other means, which makes me feel better. And evry time I fly now I off set by planting trees (so my travel agent says anyway!!!)

Leasing is the way forward.

I haven't brought a car, new or secondhand, for about 5 years now, and never will.

lol! It's just a habit. sometimes I go for days without make up, and as soon as I start putting some on again, I keep rubbing my eyes without thinking....
Mind you, I think the "panda eyes" look suits me even better than the "no make-up" look...:O(

pmsl... sorry Max but is this the *new look* ? or just the look of women who rarely wear make up ?
And now for a normal money saving tip.

If you are on a water meter put a brick in water tank of your loo and in 2 years time you can have a very noce meal out evidently.

It may not sound much but every little helps and a meal out is a meal out!!!!
When cooking I sometimes cook in bulk, like say the bolognaise sauce, I make double and freeze half.

So when I have a late night at work, dinner is already done!!!
I nearly always cook a portion or two for the freezer, and I always do my big shop online, and often buy value range items xx
Money saving tips on food.

Do not buy spray oil (unless dieting)

Eat lots of mushrooms. Very healthy and very cheap.

Never buy pre-bagged salad. Why???

Don't worry about organic. There is no evidence to suggest it is better for you.

Home made pizzas are very nice and can be made healthy and tasty for about 2 each.

Boil up chicken carcasses in stock, noodles and sweetcorn to make Jewish soup. Lovely

And also can I mention that while we're here on a Saturday night exchanging money saving tips, we're not out on the town spending our hard earned money "having fun"!! We're no fools, are we, heh heh xx

Me and husband was talking about the effects of this credit crunch which are widespread! Just think how motorbike/ cycle dealers will benefit!
