Hi I wondered if anyone can help me. I want to know if the parent income levels for qualifying for a maintenance grant are gross income or net income. Be grateful if anyone can tell me. Thanks.

Its pretty much gross income, in it parental living expenses for rent and food are not deducted. What is deductable in the magic calculation of 'Household Income' is an allowance for other dependent children.
In England & Wales you apply for a Student Loan for the 100% of the Tuition Fees and 75% of the Maintenance (the Maintenance Loan). One can then apply to one's Local Authority for a Grant for the other 25%, which is mean-assessed and a maximum of 2835 this year (2008/9).
Some more stuff on it here.
