ok so if you started a job abroad in August and worked there for 1 full year would you get a tax rebate at all? Or does it have to be a full year from april to april?
at the end of March, if you havent earned over your personal tax allowance, you would get a tax refund for any tax deducted. it is deducted at source based on an assumption that you will be earning that wage apr- mar
Sorry but you have lost me completely there. i have been in hong kong since August. do i have to be here 1 year to get a tax rebate? i just got my p60 through and it says i earned 53k this year...
if your tax code was 691L, this means you can earn 6,900 tax free, but all above that will be taxed at 20% - this goes up to 40% after 34k (or there abouts)
So i think its unlikely you are due a refund, but without knowing your full circumstances....
As ethel said, give your tax office a ring and theyll send the relevent forms.
ok cool thanks I will. I was under the impresion though that if you work outside the uk for longer than a year you dont have to pay uk taxes. thanks for your replies
It's nothing like that simple and it depends on where you are resident for tax purposes. You need professional advice from someone who knows what they are talking about. See an accountant.
