Why does someone like myself who has paid into the NI system for years and years, not get free NHS dental treatment whilst on Contribution based JSA and yet someone who has never paid in a penny and never worked gets NHS dental treatment free on income based JSA? I agree they should get it free because of their income, but as it is the same as a contribution based JSA claimant, the contribution based JSA claimant, who has obviously paid the funds in, should also get the treatment free!!! Infact they have already paid for it surely???? !!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I donlt get it, I have had to pay the 16 quid for the check up yet I am supposedly on a posher JSA cos I paid my NI for 3 decades!!!!! I really really don't get it!!!
because if you get contribution jsa its usually because you have a partner who earns a wage

weeal why am I moaning? I don't moan about stuiff like this, it's a serious subject and many on here will understand where I am coming from on this one!!!!! Why have I paid my NI for 31 years ???? Why can't they give me £16 quid of it back for a fekkin dental checkup???? I paid more than that every week in NI !!!!
Question Author
I don;t know where you get that from zzxxee, contributions based JSA is paid because you have paid NI contributions, hence the name.

NI is not a pre-payment plan. Just because you've paid in it doesn't mean you can take out, although you are, claiming JSA.
If your income is below a certain level your income can be topped up which will give you access to a whole range of benefits.
If your income is above that level, be thankful.
because when i was out of work for a few months i claimed contribution based jsa and was told that was all i was entitled to because i had a partner who worked
aye I know Dot but there were 7 pages of it last night and you didnt like anyones answers then either

Some folk get sod all when they lose their job, get over it, its short-term
and why do my mum and dad, both 82, have to pay a private dentist because there isn't an NHS one they can get to? they both worked until retirement and have state and small occupational pensions and so are not entitled to any benefits. Oh - I think they get a free tv licence! Makes me spit!! I think they are probably the only people in their small block of flats who pay their own rent.
Question Author
what are these whole host of benefits then? I am on £64.30 a week JSA, anything else would be a total bonus, the benefits agency tell me there are no other benefits i can claim but if you know of any let me know please!
can you not try and claim income support?
its not fair dot i know, its the same as if your on jsa you get help with rent but not mortgage not equal for different circumstances,
but i must just say you dont get income based if you havent work or paid a penny in to the nhs, you get income based jsa if you have been unemployed for more then 6 months, i am on income base due to been made redundant but i worked full time 56hrs per week for the last 25 years

weeal even short term has an impact!!! I didn't expect to have to spend £16 on the dental check up ! Noone is going to give me that back, and I do beleive it is a payment plan, else why would people keep telling me my NI contributions will count towardas a full pension????
No she can't zzxxee because she's fit and able to work and she has no dependants.
dot, I know know your situation. If you are single with no savings, or limited savings, you would possibly be entitled to council tax benefit, housing benefit (or mortgage help) and additional weekly payments to bring your total income up.
If you have a partner his or her income will be taken into account and if your joint income is above the threshold you will get only contribution based JSA for 182 days. If you were made redundant your lump sum is also taken in to account.
