winter fuel allowence

Iam told that at 60 you get a fuel allowence, do you have to apply for this ,or is this paid automatically.

The eligibility of BOTH men AND women for pension credits, free bus travel and the winter fuel allowance is based upon when a WOMAN becomes eligible for her state pension.
Use the calculator here, entering your gender as 'Female' (even if you're a fella), to find out when you become eligible for those benefits:

However (unlike the other benefits referred to) there is a cut-off date for the Winter Fuel Payment. You need to have reached the (woman's) pension age by the 3rd Monday in September in order to qualify for the forthcoming winter.
