Can anyone advise me a freind of mine is in a relationship with a man who unbeknonwn to her owes a lot of income tax . he as rcently moved in with her.it is her place he works away from home alot. all of the stuff in the place was hers before he moved in apart from his personal belongings she did not know anything about his problem till the Inland Revenue came Knocking on her door she is worrying herself silly thinking that they make her liable for his debt and becauase she is in a relationship with him they would be able to confiscate her stuff that she as worked hard for

Tell her not to worry. They are not married so they will not touch HER stuff.
if she can prove its her stuff or prove she had it before they got together they shouldn't be able to touch a thing. all he has to do is ring them up telling them the truth why he hadn't paid it and see if they can come to an agreement to pay it off. If they say NO ask them to put it in writing and set up a court hearing, offer the same payment scheme as before and it'll be accepted as payment's can't be refused in court...
I had the HMRC knocking on my door looking for my Ex...I just pointed out that it was my house. They never came back.

You don't have to prove that stuff is yours. Even HMRC don't expect you to keep receipts for things you might have had for years. They will get him another way...
